Report: Bend Studio plans to announce and release its next PS5 game in 2027

MP1st reports that Bend Studio will announce its next game in 2027 and plans to release it the same year, with DualShockers and Push Square both summarising the claim. Both summaries describe a third-person game with co-op features that is not a live service title and is not set in the Days Gone universe.

A new MP1st report says Bend Studio will announce its next PS5 game in 2027 and aims to release it that year, with co-op, no live service and no Days Gone link.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • MP1st reports that Bend Studio will announce its next game in 2027 and plans to release it the same year, with DualShockers and Push Square both summarising the claim.
  • Both summaries describe a third-person game with co-op features that is not a live service title and is not set in the Days Gone universe.
  • Neither outlet has verified the report independently, and no title, setting, cast or release window inside 2027 has been reported.

What the report actually says

Bend Studio plans to announce its next game in 2027 and intends to release it the same year, according to an MP1st report that DualShockers and Push Square both summarised. The studio has not released a game since Days Gone shipped in 2019. Neither outlet says it has verified the report independently, and DualShockers describes the information as coming from insiders who spoke anonymously.

The two summaries agree on the shape of the project. Push Square writes that MP1st calls it a third-person experience with co-op features and says it is not a live service title. DualShockers reports the same details and adds that the game is further along in development than readers might expect for something unannounced, which is the reason the outlet gives for treating a 2027 release as plausible.

A long PlayStation record and one recent game

Push Square's piece sets out what Bend has made. It calls Days Gone the studio's biggest and most recent project and notes that the developer has been part of Sony for over 20 years, with the Syphon Filter games, Resistance: Retribution for the PSP and Uncharted: Golden Abyss on the PS Vita before the 2019 open-world game.

Both outlets mention the sequel that never happened. Push Square says previous reports stated that Bend pitched a Days Gone 2 to Sony after the first game and was turned down, and that the studio then turned its attention to a game as a service, which was cancelled at the start of last year. DualShockers gives that cancelled project a codename, Mirror Pond, and says the new game is not set in the Days Gone universe.

The three details that count as confirmed

Beyond those points, little is on the record. DualShockers says the most that can be said is that the game will not be a live service title, will be a third-person shooter and will include some kind of co-op, and that there is no confirmation it is a new intellectual property. The claim that it sits outside the Days Gone universe is the one detail the outlet presents as confirmed rather than reported.

That combination is narrow enough to be worth spelling out. A co-op third-person shooter from a first-party Sony studio could be a linear campaign built for two players, an open-world game with shared sessions, or something closer to a horde mode with matchmaking. None of the reports say which, and neither describes a setting, a cast, a working title or a release window inside 2027. The gap matters because each of those shapes implies a different kind of production, a different budget and a different reason for Sony to hold the announcement until the game is close to shipping.

Why the 2027 date is interesting

DualShockers lists what else is expected that year: Stranger Than Heaven and Witchbrook in January, God of War: Laufey, Fable and Persona 4 Revival in February, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in April, and undated titles including Crazy Taxi: World Tour, The Duskbloods, Kingdom Hearts 4, Resident Evil Veronica and Xenoblade Genesis.

Push Square names Until Dawn 2, God of War Laufey and possibly Intergalactic as PlayStation projects in the same window and calls it a potentially busy 12 months for Sony's first-party teams. DualShockers cites GTA 6's multiple delays as the standard reason to treat a distant date as provisional, and this site's interview about GTA 6's realism covers a different part of that release.

How much weight the report carries

The sourcing is the main caveat, and the two outlets handle it differently. DualShockers says plainly that the information should be taken with a grain of salt, and its writer adds a view that studios should announce a project only when a release date looks likely. Push Square puts the word rumour in its headline and attributes each specific to MP1st rather than to Sony. That difference in framing is worth noticing: one outlet reports the claim and adds a caution, the other reports it under a label that assumes it may not hold.

MP1st has a record with this kind of PlayStation reporting. Push Square notes that the outlet has also suggested a Killzone project is in the works and teased what to expect from Media Molecule, which makes it a recurring source on unannounced first-party plans. A track record does not make this report right. It does mean the date is a second-hand plan rather than a commitment, and the same week's Persona 1 remake footage leak shows how quickly unverified material travels.

The signals that would settle the question

The concrete markers are a name, a trailer, a store listing and a date. A State of Play or a PlayStation showcase would be the obvious venue, and neither outlet reports that one is scheduled. Comments under Push Square's story speculate about a PS6 launch title, but that idea appears in reader replies rather than in the reporting, and no source in either piece mentions new hardware. A store listing would be the least dramatic of those markers and the hardest to argue with.

Until one of those markers appears, the story is a studio with one recent game, a cancelled live service project and a reported plan to show its work next year. PlayStation's confirmed announcements that week were smaller, and Push Square lists its report on November's PlayStation Plus Essential lineup alongside this one. The date to watch is 2027, and the thing to watch for is an announcement rather than a rumour.
