Persona 1 remake footage leaks, and neither Sega nor Atlus has confirmed it

About two minutes of video labelled Persona: Be Your True Mind is circulating after a Reddit post, and both TheGamer and IGN treat it as unconfirmed.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • IGN reports that a little less than two minutes of footage tied to a Persona: Be Your True Mind remake was first posted on Reddit before spreading across social media.
  • TheGamer reports the clip shows Persona 5 style menus, a graphic novel styled social link scene and an Unreal Engine debug readout, and that fans treat it as authentic.
  • Neither outlet has confirmation from Sega or Atlus, and IGN notes that nobody knows when the video was captured.

What leaked and where it appeared

Footage that appears to show a remake of the first Persona game has been circulating since 31 October, and neither Sega nor Atlus has confirmed that such a project exists. IGN reports that a little less than two minutes of video was first published on Reddit before spreading across social media, and that the original post ties the footage to a remake subtitled Be Your True Mind.

TheGamer traced the clip to a Reddit post by a user called Dastanovich on the GamingLeaksAndRumours board, and reports that the file appears to have been uploaded to gofile by an unknown person. Both outlets describe the material as convincing rather than proven, and IGN says it will not share the video itself. TheGamer places the clip in a run of remakes that began with Persona 3 Reload two years ago and continues with Persona 4 Revival, and notes that the first two games were the real question mark because they are the least known of the series.

A modern Persona wearing the first game's mood

What the clip contains, as both sites describe it, is a modern Persona game built around the first entry. TheGamer reports stylish menus in the style of the recent entries, the protagonist running through narrow hallways, and a brief glimpse of combat that looks close to Persona 5 and the remakes that followed it.

The detail TheGamer singles out is a short social link scene drawn in a much more distinct style, closer to a graphic novel, which the site says would be one way to set this remake apart. TheGamer also notes that the trailer keeps the darker atmosphere of the original game rather than softening it for a newer audience.

The details fans are reading as proof

Fans have built a case from small pieces. IGN reports that the character Eriko appears to share a summoning animation with Persona 4 Revival's version of Yukiko, and that Persona 2 protagonist Tatsuya turns up in what looks like an unfinished model standing in for someone else. IGN adds that the art, music and effects all fall in line with the studio's recent work, and that the video is longer and more detailed than a fake leak usually manages.

TheGamer adds two technical observations. A user named SkyRaiderG7 pointed out that interface elements from the first two games have been adapted into a new style, and that an Unreal Engine debug readout sits in the top left corner of the frame, both of which point to a working build rather than a mock-up.

Why neither outlet calls it real

Neither outlet treats the clip as proof. IGN writes that without confirmation from Sega or Atlus there is not much to be made of it, and that the footage could be an elaborate fake, with the odd details cut either way: placeholder assets can be evidence of a hoax or of a game still in development.

TheGamer is the more persuaded of the two, calling the footage too detailed and unique to be a fake, but it labels that as an opinion. It also points out that Persona 3 Reload leaked in a similar way before it was announced. IGN adds that nobody knows when the video was captured, which leaves open that it is a proof of concept or a pitch video. Its summary of the mood is that fans generally seem to be under the impression that the footage is authentic, which the site reports as a belief rather than a finding.

The release schedule that makes it plausible

The reports give the leak a context. IGN notes that Atlus released Persona 3 Reload in 2024 and will release Persona 4 Revival in a few months, with that game dated for 18 February 2027. It also recalls that P-Studio producer Kazuhisa Wada said in August that remakes of the first two games are something the studio has to do, while stopping short of confirming them.

Atlus has a record of leaking early. IGN lists in-development Persona 3 remake footage that appeared in 2023, Persona 6 images that surfaced in June, and a large Steam leak in September that seemed to reveal trophies for that game, story spoilers included. Persona 6 remains officially almost unseen, which is part of why the June images and the September trophies travelled as far as they did.

What would settle the question

An announcement would settle it, and neither report has one. TheGamer notes that the first two Persona games are the ones that would need the most rework to fit the modern template, which is why a remake of the original is the more interesting rumour of the pair. Neither outlet reports a date, a platform list or a title beyond the subtitle on the leaked footage. The two accounts also differ on how much weight the clip can carry: IGN's answer is none until a company says something, while TheGamer's is that the level of detail is hard to explain away.

Until then the clip sits where leaks usually sit, somewhere between a demo reel and a rumour. Readers following how older games come back this month can compare the Croc 2 remaster, Phantom Blade Zero's launch and Queen's Domain, three releases that show how differently studios handle a return.
