Nintendo dates Pikmin 4's Switch 2 Edition for November 12

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Nintendo dated the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pikmin 4 for November 12, 2026, during its first Pikmin Day presentation, which aired on October 31.
  • A free demo arrives on November 2 through the eShop and covers the opening area plus two stages of the new Dandori Academy mode, with save data transfer to the full game.
  • Dandori Academy is a timed exam mode; the stream showed an exam called Gargantuan Garden, and the edition adds voice commands for Oatchi using the Switch 2 microphone.

Nintendo dated the edition during its first Pikmin Day Direct

Nintendo used its first Pikmin Day presentation to date the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pikmin 4 for November 12, 2026. Insider Gaming's Robert DeFelice reports that the release date was the stream's first major announcement, and that the presentation aired on October 31 through the Nintendo Today app and other platforms. The show ran on October 31, one day before the date Nintendo now calls Pikmin Day. GoNintendo dates its own report to the same day and gives the same release date for an edition that pairs the base game with the new Dandori Academy content.

The original Pikmin 4 released in 2023 on the first Nintendo Switch. Insider Gaming notes that a Switch 2 version had long been rumoured before the announcement, and frames the November 12 date as Nintendo's second major launch that month. The other one, the site says, is the Ocarina of Time remake on November 5. Neither outlet describes the edition as a separate game. Both treat it as Pikmin 4 with the Dandori Academy content attached, which matters for anyone deciding whether to buy the game twice.

A free demo lands on November 2, ten days before the game

Both outlets report a free demo arriving on November 2, 2026, ten days before the full release. GoNintendo says the demo will be available through the eShop and will cover the entire opening area of the game plus two stages of the new Dandori Academy mode. That is a narrower slice than the finished mode, which Nintendo describes as a series of exams. The feature list GoNintendo reproduces does not put a length on the demo, and neither report says whether the two stages are the ones shown during the stream.

The demo also carries progress forward. GoNintendo reports that players will be able to transfer save data from the demo to the full game if they decide to buy it later. Insider Gaming's write-up of the same announcement does not mention save transfer, so that detail currently rests on one outlet. The gap matters because save transfer decides how much time a player can safely put into a demo. On the GoNintendo account, that progress is not thrown away at purchase.

Dandori Academy turns the new content into timed exams

Dandori Academy is the headline addition in the Switch 2 Edition. Insider Gaming describes it as a timed exam mode and notes that the stream showed one exam called Gargantuan Garden, where the goal is to collect gold nuggets inside a set time frame. GoNintendo's list of Switch 2 features describes the mode as a series of exams that sharpen a player's command of Pikmin. Gold nuggets are the only objective the two reports describe, and neither says whether later exams change the goal or the clock.

The mode is not the only change. Both outlets report voice commands for Oatchi, the dog companion. GoNintendo specifies that the commands use the Nintendo Switch 2 system microphone, while Insider Gaming places the feature inside its description of the new edition. Neither outlet reports how many exams ship with the mode or whether the original campaign is altered. Both reports treat the voice commands as a Switch 2 addition rather than a patch for the 2023 release.

GameShare and GameChat extend the Dandori Battles

GoNintendo lists four Switch 2 features for the edition: improved visuals, the Dandori Academy exams, microphone voice commands for Oatchi, and Dandori Battles that friends can join even if they do not own the game. That last one works locally through GameShare or online through GameChat, according to the same report. GameShare is the local route and GameChat the online one, and the wording suggests the visiting player does not need a copy of the game.

Insider Gaming's piece does not cover the multiplayer side at all. Its focus is the release date, the demo and the Dandori Academy reveal, plus the wider Pikmin Day announcements. A reader who wants the feature list has to go to the GoNintendo write-up, and a reader who wants the presentation context has to go to Insider Gaming. The two write-ups also differ in shape: one is a short announcement post built around a feature list, the other a longer news story built around a presentation.

November 1 is now Pikmin Day

The presentation did more than date one game. Insider Gaming reports that Shigeru Miyamoto said Pikmin Day is now officially November 1, which makes the date an annual fixture rather than a one-off stream. The same report says Miyamoto introduced Fuka Koshiba as a new ambassador for the Pikmin brand. Neither report says Nintendo had attached a date to the edition before this stream.

No new Pikmin game was announced. Insider Gaming states plainly that the franchise had no officially announced new games during the special, which leaves the Switch 2 Edition and its demo as the only dated software from the show. The site also recalls that Miyamoto once said he wanted to put Pikmin into everything Nintendo does, which is the context for a dedicated day at all. Insider Gaming calls the edition the stream's first major announcement, which is the closest either report comes to naming a headline.

What the two reports do not settle

Neither outlet gives a price for the Switch 2 Edition, a file size, or an upgrade path for people who already own Pikmin 4 on the first Switch. Those are the practical questions a 2023 owner will ask first, and the two reports leave all three open. A price would also settle whether the edition is aimed at newcomers or at the 2023 audience, and neither report addresses that question.

The date itself is consistent across both. For the surrounding Nintendo slate, this site's file on the Ocarina of Time remake trailer covers the November 5 release that Insider Gaming mentions, the Mario Kart World datamine tracks another Switch 2 title, and Nintendo's cancelled Kirby Air Riders Halloween event shows how the company handled its October calendar. All three concern Switch and Switch 2 software from the same weeks as this announcement.
