Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen: which bundle or expansion do you need?

The October 9 release adds a paid story expansion and brings the game to Switch 2. Existing PS5 and Xbox owners can buy an add-on; PS5 and Steam also have bundles containing the base game.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launched October 9, 2026 as a paid story expansion and a new Switch 2 package.
  • Switch 2 combines the original game and expansion. PS5 and Xbox list an add-on requiring the base game, while PS5 and Capcom Town’s Steam listing also offer combined bundles.
  • Norgan is a snowy northern region. Lost Rites adds 12 dungeon challenges, and the expansion includes new hairstyles and tattoos. Store contents and reviewers’ save-entry guidance answer different purchase and play questions.

Dark Arisen is an expansion with a Switch 2 package

Capcom’s release announcement sets October 9, 2026 as the date for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. The name can make the product sound like a new standalone sequel, but Capcom’s press release describes it as a paid expansion that adds a new story to Dragon’s Dogma 2, the game originally released in March 2024. Capcom lists Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC as platforms for the release.

On Switch 2, Capcom combines the base game and expansion in one package. The PS5 expansion and Xbox expansion are add-ons that require Dragon’s Dogma 2. A combined edition is also available on PS5, and Capcom Town sells a Steam bundle. Owning the original game is therefore the first question to settle before comparing products with Dark Arisen in the name.

PS5 and Xbox add-ons require the base game

Both expansion listings warn that the product cannot be used without Dragon’s Dogma 2. They also tell players to update to the latest patch if needed and warn that other sets contain the same expansion. Those notices are useful to an existing owner: buying a second set could duplicate content already in the account. Read the included items before choosing between a standalone add-on and a combined edition.

The Xbox page identifies Series X|S as supported hardware and explicitly excludes ray tracing on Series S. That hardware note does not establish a frame-rate target or a cross-platform graphics comparison. The PS5 listing identifies the expansion as a PS5 product, with Remote Play and DualSense vibration and trigger effects supported. Check the store for the device where you intend to keep playing; a title shared by several listings does not establish a purchase entitlement on another platform.

Combined editions also appear on PS5 and Steam

The PS5 Dark Arisen edition lists the base game, Dark Arisen Expansion, Explorer’s Camping Kit and Dragon’s Dogma Custom Sounds. Its separate Standard Edition lists the base game. A newcomer comparing those editions can use the item lists to identify whether the story expansion is included, rather than rely on the product artwork or assume every edition with the game’s name contains the same extras.

The Capcom Town Store launch notice concerns its Steam version. It explicitly describes that product as a bundle of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen Expansion, and advertises a digital wallpaper store bonus that may later be available separately. This PC offer should not be cited as proof of a Switch 2 retail format. Capcom’s June company announcement separately establishes the combined Switch 2 package. Country-specific stock, physical packaging and account-transfer terms still require the relevant retailer’s details.

Norgan is the new northern region; 12 challenges use the existing world

The PS5 product description places the new story in Norgan, a long-abandoned snowy region to the north. It names Eir as the character investigating the undying Fallen Dragon. Lost Rites is listed separately as 12 dungeon challenges in the main area. The story setting and challenge count describe different additions: one northern region and a set of trials distributed through the game world.

A PC review adds useful shape to that number. RPGFan’s reviewer counted nine Lost Rites dungeons in the base world and three in the Unmoored World. The same review describes restrictions that vary between challenges: one may admit only the main Pawn, another can require the Arisen to leave curatives and consumables behind, and some ask for a particular vocation. Those examples are a reviewer’s account rather than Capcom’s published checklist, but they explain why the 12 encounters should not be read as a dozen identical combat rooms.

That layout has a practical consequence for returning players. The new story sends the Arisen into an unfamiliar northern area, while the challenge dungeons add reasons to revisit locations in the base game. A player who finished the original map can expect new material in both directions: somewhere new to explore and challenge content integrated into places they already know. Capcom’s press release calls Dark Arisen a new story, while the store description supplies the region and challenge details.

The store description also names new hairstyle and tattoo options for Arisen and Pawns. These are character-customization additions, separate from the story’s new area and challenge content. Capcom’s high-level press release does not describe every unlock condition or say whether customization options are available immediately. The safest buyer expectation is that these features are listed as expansion content, with the exact way to obtain them left to the game and store detail pages.

Existing saves may need to reach a story trigger first

Capcom’s launch and product pages explain what is sold, but they do not list the in-game entry requirements for an existing save. Two PC reviewers describe a story gate. RPG Site’s PC review says Norgan and the Lost Rites content open after obtaining the Godsbane Blade and speaking with Captain Brant at Vernworth. RPGFan’s reviewer likewise describes meeting Brant at night and warns that a character already in the Unmoored World cannot access the expansion in that state, recommending New Game Plus. Those are review-based access notes, not a Capcom support guarantee. If you have a late-game save, check the current in-game prompt before assuming the DLC starts from the title screen.

The expansion also adds a gear loop the official product blurb does not spell out. T3’s reviewer describes finding Spoils around the world and taking them to an NPC who turns them into equipment that can be used or sold. The writer found that appraisal process surprisingly compelling because some results changed a character build. That is one player’s review, and it does not establish exact drop rates or an ideal farming route. It does show why the new content is more than a snowy map and a story marker: exploration and appraisal feed back into the equipment a player carries.

One Switch 2 hands-on is useful context, not a performance guarantee

A T3 reviewer wrote after playing roughly three hours of the Switch 2 version and then trying late-game expansion content on PS5 Pro. The writer described the Switch 2 build as playable and reported frame generation with a variable rate that hovered in the high 30s during that session. That is a first-person review observation, useful for someone considering handheld play, but it is not a controlled benchmark across areas, settings or hardware units.

The same review distinguishes the portable experience from the PS5 Pro version the writer used for late-game play. That should not be read as Capcom’s platform comparison or a guarantee of parity in resolution and frame rate. Capcom’s release materials confirm the package and platforms; the review contributes one person’s experience. If performance is the deciding factor, look for platform-specific tests on the console and display you plan to use, and avoid turning one short session into a general promise.
