Fortnitemares 2026: haunted playlists and the 26-quest Jack-A-Nape reward

Epic’s Halloween event is running across Battle Royale, Horde Rush, Reload and Blitz Royale until November 1. Freddy’s Nightmare is an in-match weapon reward, while a separate free Nitemare quest track offers Jack-A-Nape after 26 quests.

The headline Haunted playlists sits above four conceptual Halloween activity zones: haunted streets, a purple monster arena, coastal ruins and a compact illuminated arena, seen by an anonymous adventurer. No closing date is shown.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Epic says Fortnitemares 2026 runs across Battle Royale, Horde Rush, Reload and Blitz Royale through November 1; it does not state an exact event cutoff hour.
  • Battle Royale adds Nightmare Neighborhood, Freddy Krueger’s in-match Freddy’s Nightmare weapon, FNAF animatronic possession, Bonerattler and rule-changing Overrides.
  • Dexerto’s quest guide lists Jack-A-Nape as the reward for 26 Nitemare quests across the modes; because Epic has not published an event end hour, October 31 is the safer last full day.

Halloween activities across the playlists

Epic’s October 1 Fortnite news post lists Fortnitemares in Battle Royale, Horde Rush and Reload, with horror characters arriving throughout the month. A separate official Epic Communities post also lists Blitz Royale. The event post says the celebration runs until November 1. Epic’s Override Battle Pass page separately says the Battle Pass ends November 1 Eastern Time; it does not say the entire season ends then. Epic gives no Fortnitemares closing hour, so check the in-game timer before a final session.

The playlists offer different activities. Battle Royale adds Nightmare Neighborhood, Freddy Krueger and temporary combat rules. Horde Rush sends squads through waves of Cube Monsters, with perks, weapon upgrades and an Endless Mode after the final boss. Reload adds Nitemare Island to a rotating map selection, with Siphon loot that restores health as you deal damage. For one evening, choose the activity first: the boss and modifiers in Battle Royale, co-op waves in Horde Rush, or Reload’s map rotation. Shop cosmetics follow their own schedule.

The current Epic Communities event post also lists Blitz Royale. That faster playlist includes the Bonerattler SMG and Freddy’s Nightmare, plus the Last Call knife: eliminating its wielder passes the role to the player who takes them down. This makes Blitz another Halloween option rather than an activity missing from the event. Check its own playlist rules when choosing a session; the items named for Blitz are not a promise that every Battle Royale modifier appears there.

Battle Royale adds a boss weapon and temporary rule changes

Nightmare Neighborhood is the new point of interest tied to Freddy Krueger. Epic says he can hide behind a familiar face, then vanish and reappear close enough to strike. Defeating him grants Freddy’s Nightmare, a claw weapon that teleports into range and slashes an opponent. Dexerto says the weapon drops only from the boss, so it is a separate objective from picking up the Bonerattler SMG. The guide reports that Bonerattler reveals targets through walls while aiming down sights; its Exotic Marker variant has the same listed stats as the Legendary and also marks a target when it hits. Epic’s overview gives no damage comparisons, so these descriptions explain how the weapons work and how Freddy’s reward is obtained, not which item performs better.

Fortnitemares Overrides alter how a match plays. Spooky Sprinter cloaks a player while sprinting, Berserk increases damage as health drops, and Spooky Prop Hunt disguises a squad as Halloween props. Other modifiers trade shields for extra health or launch pumpkin rockets while firing. Epic’s Communities post also lists Quack Snacks as unvaulted and the Drum Gun, Ranger Assault Rifle and Tetris Rift as vaulted. It names the Wood Stake Shotgun, Dual Fiend Hunters, Witch Broom and Heavy Assault Rifle among returning gear. Ranked and Competitive playlists receive only a portion of these vault changes, so check the current playlist before assuming its loot matches standard Battle Royale.

Players can fight Five Nights at Freddy’s animatronics and possess one after defeating it. Dexerto’s guide identifies Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria as another new Battle Royale point of interest, with jumpscares, security-camera feeds and hostile animatronic bosses. Epic says animatronics also lurk elsewhere on the island. If a player’s health runs out while possessing one, Epic says they get a few seconds in which they cannot be eliminated; then the shell breaks and they return to the fight. Epic has not said whether the possession mechanic will remain after Fortnitemares, so it is tied to the active event.

Pumpkin Chests scattered across the island can contain Sprites. Spooky Dash gives a charge-based dash that replenishes over time and can phase through some objects; Dexerto says its cooldown drops as it levels. Vampire restores health as you damage enemies, with the healing percentage rising by level. Deer strengthens melee attacks, and its bonus also grows with level. Dumpster Dive can produce food that heals more, including when a player jumps out of a hiding prop or, rarely, from a container. Epic added Honey on October 15; bees chase enemies who damage you. Obsession, also added that day, helps collect other Sprites. Neither the official post nor Dexerto’s guide gives exact values for every level, so the described effects do not establish a numerical advantage between pickups.

Epic’s Communities post also describes two other loot interactions. Trick or Treat Cheats may give players an extra treat alongside a Sprite, while the Snack-O’-Lantern Gizmo can be thrown to spill Exotic Candy. These are match-loot interactions alongside the chest-based Sprite search; they do not replace the account-level quest counter.

Horde Rush and Reload suit different Halloween sessions

Horde Rush returns as the co-op wave mode. Squads fight Cube Monsters, choose perks, buy and upgrade weapons, and can take on surprise encounters or raise the difficulty at Cursed Shrines. Epic says beating the final boss unlocks Endless Mode. A group can stop after the boss or keep the same run going in the longer mode, which gives the session a different endpoint from Battle Royale’s boss hunt. A squad that wants to keep the fight manageable can avoid raising the challenge at a Shrine and focus on the waves.

Reload’s Nitemare Island arrived October 8 with a refreshed map led by Elite Kado Thorne. Siphon loot restores health when you deal damage, and Stranger Things and Squid Grounds also joined the map rotation. The active Reload map can change with the playlist, so check the current selection if Nitemare Island is your reason to queue. Epic describes it as a seasonal map and loot rotation.

Jack-A-Nape comes from a separate quest track

Jack-A-Nape is an account-level quest reward, not a match drop. Dexerto’s October 1 guide reports that Nitemare Quests arrive weekly across Battle Royale, Reload and Horde Rush. It lists the outfit at 26 completions, with earlier reward thresholds at 2, 5, 8, 12, 16, 20 and 23. Those earlier milestones give partial progress a purpose for players who will not finish the outfit track. Epic’s event post does not publish the reward table, so use the in-game Quests panel for the current count and objectives. Freddy’s Nightmare is obtained from the Battle Royale boss; the account-level outfit follows the separate quest counter.

Dexerto says the quest track must be completed before October 31; Epic’s broader event post says Fortnitemares runs until November 1 but gives no closing hour. The exact last minute for the quest reward is not stated in Epic’s post. Treat October 31 as the last full day, start with any mode-specific tasks that take longer, and check the in-game event timer before your final session.

Keep the Item Shop calendar separate

Epic says outfits and accessories from its horror crossovers will arrive throughout October. They are separate from match equipment and quest rewards. The official post lists Five Nights at Freddy’s, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hazbin Hotel, Beetlejuice, Obsession and other collaborations, but gives no price or exact shop time for every item. Check the live Item Shop for a specific outfit; the event date does not promise that every crossover is available at once.
